Beautiful Coffee Beans…MMMM…YUMM

I don’t know about you, but I do not need any reason to drink my beloved coffee. I have to be honest and admit that I would probably still drink it even if all evidence pointed to it being bad for your health. Yes, I love it that much. Thankfully, much points to the opposite. Coffee seems to have a lot going for it due to it’s high levels of antioxidants and nutrients. Here’s a few interesting tidbits on the health benefits of starting our day with a cup of Joe.

1. More Energy

Well, who doesn’t want that. Hello! I’m sure you have heard of caffeine…that’s the stimulant in coffee that gives us that little pick me up. Nice, especially in the morning, and maybe around 3 in the afternoon.

2. High in Antioxidants

Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slow damage to your cells caused by free radicals. Coffee is quite high in antioxidants and if you aren’t regularly eating fruits and veggies, which contain antioxidants, coffee may be a beneficial beverage for you.

3. May Lower Risk of Cancer

Some studies show that coffee may lower risk of colorectal and liver cancers. Coffee drinkers may have a 40% lower risk of liver cancer, and may have 15% lower risk of colorectal cancer. Any lower risk of cancer is obviously good news.

4. May Lower Risk of Alzheimer’s & Dementia

Neurodegenerative diseases are no doubt criminal in the way they rob you of your memories and who you are. The good news for coffee drinkers is that studies have shown coffee may reduce risk of Alzheimer’s.

5. May Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

The reasons seem to be a little unclear, but coffee drinkers have much less risk of type 2 diabetes.

6. May Lower Risk of Depression

Again, reasons why are unclear, but some studies have shown that those who drink coffee had a lower risk of becoming depressed. Such good news.

7. May Promote a Longer Life

Yes! Who wouldn’t want this! More than one study has shown that coffee drinkers live longer and have an overall lower risk of premature death. If that’s not reason enough to enjoy your coffee, than I don’t know what is!

Speaking of which…all this talk about the health benefits of coffee has reminded me that I need another cup. I hope you enjoyed this and have a beautiful day!
